A Spirited Community Serving the World

About Us

Who We Are
WUMC is a medium-sized United Methodist congregation made up of people of all ages, background, and walks of life. We range is age from precious infants to vibrant senior adults, and everywhere in between. Each week you'll find groups of all ages and interests meeting in our facility. We're confident we have a place for you!
We are an active church, and love working to help the community surrounding our campus on Walzem Road. We hope you'll explore all the ways you can get involved.

Our History
Windcrest United Methodist was founded in the fall of 1964, and services were first held in a ranch house located on the corner of Midcrown and Crestway. Rev. Roy Hilliard was the initial pastor, and literally walked door to door through Windcrest, inviting families to be a part of his new Methodist congregation.
The congregation grew to 140 people by the time they moved into their first building on February 14, 1965.
In the 1980s, during a period of growth and change, we added the current sanctuary, the Jones Building, and the McClung Building. From that time to the present, our leaders have worked to establish WUMC as a leader in the San Antonio area and to move the church beyond its walls to help the community at large. In 2005, we purchased the Red Tree Shopping Center next door to our church, significantly increasing our building space and opportunity to serve the community.
Dr. Lonnie Phillips was appointed Senior Pastor in June 2008. Lonnie is passionate about proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ and helping others discover their own ministry. Currently serving our church as associate pastors are Rev. Joan Ahrens, Rev. Linda Gwathmey and Rev. Tamara Strehli.
